What is control systems engineering?

Control systems engineering designs feedback loops so machines and processes reach and maintain desired outputs — speed, temperature, pressure, or position — automatically and safely.

Understand the concept

A sensor measures output, a controller compares it to a setpoint, and an actuator adjusts input. PID (proportional–integral–derivative) controllers are common in industry for tuning response speed and stability.

Applications

Cruise control, drone stabilization, furnace temperature, robot arms, power grid frequency regulation, and chemical plant loops all use control theory.
